It’s the World Wildlife Fund’s 50th anniversary and to celebrate they produced a short film called ‘Astonish Me’.
‘A magical tale of adventure and discovery showcasing some of the extraordinary species recently found around the world’.
It’s important that advertising films like this inspire action rather than overwhelm us with more conservation fatigue and hopelessness, both of which we end up switching off to. I think ‘Astonish Me’, created by acclaimed writer Stephen Poliakoff and director Charles Sturridge, did a great job of inspiring a subtle call to action at the end.
I think this film would make a good tool to inspire open discussion with children on extinction, the animal kingdom, conservation initiatives and biodiversity.
Take a look and tell me what you think.
Did you get conservation fatigue? Did it make you feel overwhelmed or inspired?

I liked how they were subtle but consistent with the “We’re running out of time…” message. I thought that was really clever.
Great production ! Was I conservation fatigued ? Mmmm…no, I don’t think so. But it didn’t completely inspire me either. Then again, I’m a tainted, cynical adult. Put it in front of a child, and it might be a different story.
Thanks for sharing !
