Animal Books: The Sunday Mail and The Courier Mail Kids’ Mini Book Collection

Do your children love picture books? Do they regularly choose books with furry features and feathered creatures within their pages?

Koala Lou

We all know reading books to children is not only great for their literacy skills but reading animal books specifically also builds an understanding of and a connection with animals. A Mini Collection of books, all with animals, is available from The Sunday Mail and The Courier Mail this week.  So, when I was given the opportunity to review the list and tell you all about them, I couldn’t help but say yes!

I haven’t bought Miss Possum, Panda and Platypus a new book for a while. I wish I could buy a new book once a week, but sometimes we just can’t afford it.  From February 3 to 10, The Courier Mail and The Sunday Mail will be providing a beautiful, quality book each day with some of my favourite Authors like Mex Fox and Graeme Base.

The first book will be one of my childhood favourites, Animalia, and it’s free with the purchase of this week’s Sunday Mail. The remaining seven books are only $2 with a token from the Courier Mail.  Two dollars! Can you believe it?!

Books two to seven from the Mini Book collection are also available for $2 with the token from the Gold Coast Bulletin, Townsville Bulletin and The cairns Post.

Here’s the impressive list:

‘February 3: Animalia, written and illustrated by Graeme Base

February 4: Uno’s Garden, written and illustrated by Graeme Base

February 5: Koala Lou, written by Mem Fox and illustrated by Pamela Lofts

February 6: Hunwick’s Egg, written by Mem Fox and Illustrated by Pamela Lofts

February 7: There’s a hippopotamus Eating Cake on Our Roof, written by Hazel Edwards and illustrated by Deborah Niland.

February 8: Stickybeak, Written by Hazel Edwards, and illustrated by Rosemary Wilson

February 9: Hairy Maclary’s Bone, written and illustrated by Lynely Dodd

February 10: Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, written and illustrated by Lynley Dodd’

The Sunday Mail

As you can see, the twins really loved the books. They practically stole them out of my hands as soon as they arrived. Miss Platypus loves koalas, so she took Koala Lou and devoured the pictures straight away.  Miss Panda stole Animalia and ran outside, hoping to have all to herself.

Animalia

They may be smaller than the original hard copies but they are just as delightful to read to your little ones. I can see that quite a few in this list will become family favourites!

Obviously they’ll be going fast, so the collection is available while stocks last.

For more information and terms and conditions please see The Courier Mail.

*Please note that I did receive The Mini Book collection to write this post however my opinions are true and unbiased. I do love picture books and I do believe this is a bargain price for these quality books! Please see my disclosure page for more information.

Sorry Clint, I meant once a week (I have since edited the document you read). Of course we do go to the library once a week but it’s hard to get the ones you want when your child asks for their favourites. I also buy books from the Salvos and the Life Line Bookfest (of which I’m addicted) .

I do love to buying brand new books though and I do buy one every month for the girls but add the price of each up over a month, or even a year and your spending a lot of cash. The point I was making was that these books are favourites with children all over Australia and you can get them for only $2, I think that’s a bargain!

Christina, thank so much for taking the time to comment! Yes, the girls are loving the Hippopotamus book. I was sadly never introduced to this book until now and I must say, I think this one is a hit already!
